I got to start the long weekend one day sooner than expected, and not in a manner I would suggest to anyone! I spent a fair amount of today in bed, recovering from a very rough night on Thursday, which included a visit to the ER.
I had a great evening yesterday, I had met Christin and some old friends who I used to work with, for dinner. We went to the Parliament Pub downtown right across from Parliament Hill. I had a very yummy chicken panini. It was a great visit with my old co-workers, Christin brought me my copy of the JCS Ornament Issue (finally), and Christin and I wrapped up the evening with a walk on Parliament Hill, and a quick stop in Old Navy. I wanted a new pair of jeans (once again my pants are getting big), and there was a gorgeous red wool jacket I positively drooled on. But I left the jacket there, and got just the jeans.
When I got home I was feeling good and full of energy, I felt like going for a run. So I got changed and hopped onto the treadmill for a 5K run. Near the end of my run I started to break out into hives. That didn't bother me too much, I break out in hives from time to time, nothing new right? The hives were pretty bad by the time I got off of the treadmill, I was literally covered head to toe in thousands of them. I took a reactine and wanted to get in the shower. I was in the shower for only a minute or two when I realized something was wrong. My vision started going snowy and my hearing was muffled. I knew I had to get out of there. Thank goodness Todd was nearby he knew I wasn't feeling right and when I went to get a towel I passed out. I didn't even know it had happened the next thing I knew I was on the floor, apparently he managed to help me down as a fell.
Todd helped me to get to the bedroom, I know I passed out at least once maybe twice more on the way there. In the end I think I passed out about four or five times over a short period of time before Todd was able to help me get dressed and get me into the car to go to the hospital.
In the end we don't know what happened last night, why I kept passing out. I had bloodwork done, that came back okay (elevated white blood cell count but that was to be expected with the hives), I had an ECG my heart is healthy. My blood pressure which was low when I went in was back to normal when I was discharged at 1:30am (feeling pretty weak and tired). I now have an appointment later this week to follow up with my family doctor.
As of this evening I am fine and feeling more like myself than I have in the last 24 hours. I've also done some stitching (a sure sign I'm getting back to normal).
Needless to say I stayed home from work today, took things very easy, with a 5 hour nap in the afternoon.
Hope you get to feeling better soon. Don't even know what to mention to check.
ReplyDeleteYOU rock

Sounds like one scary allergic reaction ... were there any unusual spices or flavoring agents in the panini ...
ReplyDeleteI hate to sound like an aging hippie alarmist conspiracy theorist but what with all the genetic engineering of our foodstuffs, we have no clue what we are ingesting. Think you are eating a tomato ... wrong, it has dna from fish ... so sorry if you are allergic to fish and need to avoid it ... it's like playing Russian roulette ... and, in the USA at least, we haven't even begun to tackle the truth in labelling issues.
I am going to start collecting heirloom seeds, growing all my own veggies and quit eating in restaurants ... so, I'll probably end up eating foods saturated with pollutants because of all the acid rain in the northeastern US ... hey, I don't just sound like a paranoid conspiracy theorist ... I have finally become one.
That must have been so scary. It does sound like it was a reaction to something you ate while you were out. I hope you're feeling back to normal now.
ReplyDelete((((hugs))))
Oh my goodness! That is so scarey! I hope everything is ok and am glad you are feeling better now.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the mystry sorted, it doesn't sound like fun. Glad to hear you are starting to feel a bit better. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh Heck Dani, that must have been seriously scarey. Thank goodness Todd was there! So hope they can get to the bottom of why this happened & that it's soon sorted out. In the meantime, take care (((((hugs))))).
ReplyDeleteOh how bad is that. I hope you will find out what caused the problem. Take care!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nightmare. I had a similar reaction, but without the hives and WAY less severe, to a cream my doctor gave me for some nasty insect bites. The dizzyness came on in the changing rooms in the gym. I think the people there thought I'd 'overdone it'. I had a little trouble braething too, so ended up getting an abulance ride to hospital (Ed doesn't drive). Turns out the cream didn't go with my antihistemine - both were prescribed by the same doctors surgery, they forgot to tell me to stop taking my regular meds for a while. I was totally fine though, and it's never happened since (although I react badly to some wines - not that that's stopped me tryign them, I just take a sip at first and wait a bit). Hope that they find the cause, and that you are totally fine now. Glad to hear you are back stitching already - usually a good sign.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better, Dani! Take it easy this weekend.
ReplyDeleteHow scary, and then to not know what caused it as well. I hope you're feeling better now and that it doesn't occur again.
ReplyDeleteYour pears and pomogranites piece is looking so pretty, what lovely colors. Also, congratulations on doing so well at the run. That's fantastic that so much money was raised, and what a personal accomplishment that you raised that much and completed the whole run. You did awesome.
Sue

ReplyDeleteOh no, that doesn't sound good at all. Relieved, as I'm sure you must have been, that Todd was around to take care of you. Hope you are feeling on top form again very soon!
ReplyDeleteYikes! I sure hope you feel better.

ReplyDelete(((Hugs))) That was scary, I'm really glad your feeling better !!!
ReplyDeleteDani, I hope you are feeling better soon and they can figure out why so many fainting spells. My younger sister went through a patch of that and she had to wear a heart monitor for a week and nothing was wrong and it's never happened again.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been such a frightening experience for both you and Todd (from different viewpoints). I am so glad you are back to normal now Dani but do take things easy for a wee while, this may just have been a warning to slow down a bit.
