Photo Hunt - Hands

When I saw this week's theme I knew exactly what photo I wanted to share with you!  Sometimes I scroll through a lot of pictures to find just the right one (I think I've got over 20,000 pictures over many, many, many years!).  The theme this week is hands.

I took this picture on my first trip to the Dominican Republic in 2010.  I took this picture of the hands of one of the Haitian workers in the sugarcane fields.  These men spend all day, from 6am to 6pm cutting, and loading sugar cane to go to the refineries.  They make just pennies an hour.

I'll be taking students back again this February, for their third world experience.  This will be my fourth trip, its a full year commitment and a lot of work.  When I see what the kids gets out of this experience I know its worth it.

Great picture showing hands that do an honest days work. shame the renumeration doesn't match the hard work.

My hands are at http://hindmarsh-island.com/?p=873

What a clever picture! I feel sad when I have a few paper cuts... I just wish his pay could reflect his hard work

The simplicity of this photo is what is so touching.
I know you do good work when you are there!
