Sulky Blendables

I mentioned in my previous post that I had gotten some Sulky Blendables to try stitching with. I had first heard of them on two blogs about a month ago. I read about them on Tracey Horner's Blog (designs for Ink Circles), and also on Anette's blog (Anette's Acre).

I had checked a few quilt stores in the area with no luck, I couldn't find them in 12 weight. I had mentioned them to Bonnie and she had seen them in a nearby quilt store, so she picked me up a few colours I had seen online that I liked.

I was anxious to try them out, so once I finished my flurry of Lizzie Kate ornaments, I picked a small Ink Corcles design I had (Piccalilli) and a piece of white 28ct evenweave.

According to what I've read, this thread works great with either 28 or 32 count fabric. As I hope you can see from this close up, it looks more like a perele cotton, but it's got a nice sheen to it and it's a little on the slippery side. I did have to use a bigger (smaller numbered) needle. I do really like working with the thread itself, you can easily use long lengths, it doesn't tangle easily, and the fact that it's on a spool is quite nice.

Now I'm not sure if it's the colour I've picked (changing quite quickly) or the design... I'm not too happy with how the design itself is turning out. I think I should of used something with out so much variation. It's just too busy. I'm. To giving up on this thread, I just don't think it's right for this design.

Oh what's a stitchy post without a furry purry?

Interesting, I'd only ever thought of those as machine threads. It looks really effective

I'm thinking it looks really nice Dani, although your photographical helper doesn't look too impressed with it does he!

Hi Dani,
I've also heard about this thread and I think it is indeed for 32ct or higher.
I think the colour and design are great but maybe a little bit overwhelming like you're saying.
Maybe experiment with one of the other colours?
Have fun with them!
Kind greetings,
Ann

Thanks for this info on this thread. I think the colors are lovely. Sweet cat :)

I really like the thread with that design. But then I like the look of really varigated colors.

I agree. The quick color changes are too much for the design.

I've not heard of this thread before. Very interesting. How is the cost?

Looks really pretty. I find that there is so much color variation in these threads that it can be difficult to find the right design to show them off. But they are great to work with.

I rather like it, but do understand what you mean about it being so "busy". Maybe a design with a bit more filled in, not so lacy?

I like it
Keep at it. When the design is done, you might too

Personally I love the blendables thread and I used it for a large AAN design that I completed fairly recently. I used the colour "Baby Soft", which has more subtle colour changes. This is the post sowing the completed design if you'd like to have a look: http://miaminaxstitch.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/well-its-been-while-since-i-posted-last.html

I've only used it on 32-ct and am quite happy with the coverage.

I'm glad you gave it a try :) I agree, though, matching the amount of color change with the right design is the challenge!

Such a sweet helper! Interesting ~ I never would have thought to stitch with those threads. Lovely color choices!

Ooh, I have some of those sort of threads which I picked up in a quilt shop. Do you use one or two strands?
I think that your design looks fabulous, I wouldn't change it.

LOL when I read your post title I thought they had finally invented threads that sulked LOL

I want to give this a go, but finding them in NZ will be interesting. Maybe online shops if anyone has found them online?

I actually think the variation of color in your cross-stitch is beautiful.

Wow! Nice work!! Very pretty :D

Very interesting, even if it didn't work out *exactly* as planned. I'll have to look for that next time I'm at Joann's. I could see red and green being nice to have on hand for Christmas ornaments. I usually grab for any red/green that I like for those types of things vs. using what is exactly called for.

I've heard of this thread, but have never seen it anywhere to buy. It does seem to be quite verigated, but it's still very pretty. :)

The threads look gorgeous and I absolutely love how it looks in the design. I think the way it changes so often is very pretty.
