And They All Fell Down

We had freezing rain starting in the wee hours of Boxing Day (to those of you who are not Canadian or British, that's commonly known as December 26th). It continued to rain on and off throughout the day with the temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. Which leads to freezing rain. Not only did we loose power for at least an hour and a half (thank goodness for our generator, we even ran an extension cord to the living room so I could hook up my Ott-Lite!), but we lost some of our trees at the front of our property. Which means we've lost some of our privacy from the road!

My driveway... looks pretty dosen't it?

The tree(s) that came down looking at them from the house.

The tree(s) that came down looking at them from the road, you can kinda see my house behind the trees.

Well I got in little to no stitching today because Todd and I had two parties to go to and boy I'm pooped (and stuffed, and yup I ate all the bad stuff too, gonna pay for that at the scale for sure!)

Your trees look so pretty but what a shame you lost some. As for the partying - it's Christmas so enjoy x

Yikes - bad weather!
We lost some trees in our last snowstorm, but not ones that really affected privacy, thank goodness. Maybe you could plant some fast-growing evergreens? Not sure how well they do in your part of the country...

Your drive does look pretty, but such a shame about your trees. Don't think too much about the scales, it's Christmas, just enjoy!

Wow, quite the weather you had! How sad you lost those trees...they were quite big!

It's too bad those trees went down. I bet they were beautiful in their time!
On a lighter note...do you have a fireplace? Those trees could bring you further joy if you could cut them up, dry them out and use them for warmth and a romantic setting!
And as for teh partying...go with it, there's always time to get back on track after you enjoy yourself. The trick is, just not to let the whole thing get out of hand. I know you wouldn't do that, so you are doing okay!

Ugh! We had this last year and I lost some lilac bushes on the side of my house. It's pretty but oh so treacherous. Glad you didn't lose power for too long and good luck with the clean up.

Poor trees, they just can't deal with that heavy ice. We lost a tree because of the heavy snow we had just before Christmas. Not looking forward to the cleanup.

Sorry to hear your "privacy screen" has a few more holes in it...maybe new ones in the spring? As for the eating, my DH and I decided that over the holidays - no nagging. We are enjoying in moderation and refocusing in the new year.

Your driveway looks lovely, but slippery if it is anything like ours...

I'm well acquainted with ice and trees. That's what we usually get instead of snow. This year we got snow, and I've still not ventured out. Must try today! Happy stitching and happy new year tood.

Wow, that's some weather. Sorry about your trees. I'm glad they didn't damage your house when they came down, though!

Sigh, all I can say is be thankful they didn't fall on your house. A 100 foot pine tree fell in my yard putting 4 very large limbs in my kitchen a few years back during an ice storm in western NC. Had to stay with friends until everything was repaired and in order. Like you, I sat in my living room and watched the branches leaning then finally the tree fall, sounds like WW3, grin. BarbM

Nice pics, shame about the trees.

Plenty of time to worry if the scales move, enjoy and have fun

Oooo, that's where my storm went. So sorry Dani. I hate ice storms, it takes the trees forever to recover. And yours were big trees. *cries*

Oh, I feel so sorry for the trees. Looks like our yard after the hurricanes of 2004. :-(

Maybe you can plant something else there to get a little privacy.

Glad you made it through the storm okay though.

You have a very nice driveway. That is my kind of driveway.

I am glad that the trees dropped sideway and not backwards towards your house.

It's so sad to lose trees in this way, but perhaps you can use this opportunity for something new in the spring! What a chore to clean up that mess tho - hope you get lots of help or find a good guy to do the job for you.

Oh Dani, I'm so sorry to see those trees go. You're right, it will really cut down on your privacy. Time to plant some new ones.
We didn't receive quite as much ice as you did. The roads were much worse your way than ours.
