Murphy's Law Monday

I love Mondays... did you catch the sarcasm in that?

This Monday was an especially brutal in more ways than one!

First of all, we woke  up to -30c... that was without the windchill.  Due to the cold temperatures and my car not having a block heater, and not in the garage... it didn't want to start.  Todd first tried to start the car at about 6:40am he finally got it going at 9am!

While he was outside in the freezing cold trying to get my poor little car-car started I knew the furnace just wasn't working right.  You could hear it start to pump oil from the tank, the furnace would prime, the fan would come on for about 45 seconds then it would cut out and the whole process would start again.  There were fumes in the house that had started to burn my eyes after a few hours and we were struggling to maintain a consistent temperature.  I just knew it wasn't right but I had to get into work!  Because of our concern for the fumes and the cats we did leave a window open when we left the house.

Todd and I agreed I would call the oil company (we have oil heat) who we have a service plan on our furnace with and deal with this.  Unfortunately if Todd doesn't work he doesn't get paid, whereas I have a personal day and sick days.  I was a little flustered when they asked me if I could be back at the house an hour later for a service man.  So I pretty much left work not long after I got there.  It took the poor service guy until 2:30 PM to fix my furnace!

Excuse my french, but what a shitty day!

I swear I'm never going to feel warm  ever again!

I was able to make some use of my time at home (besides trying to keep warm), I did the finishing on my latest snowflake.

Oh! You poor thing! I know just what you are going through!
We are not quite that cold here in NY, but it is very cold to be sure. Our heating system is also on the fritz, but it cannot be fixed until we can turn off the heat next May. Thank God we have a woodstove. Without it we cannot get the house temp above 60 degrees!
It's good your fingers were still able to stitch yesterday! Atleast you have something to show for a very bad day!
Spring is out there somewhere!

Great job on the ornament!

Sorry to hear about the furnace woes. We have oil heat, too--enough said. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt! We had -18 C temps and we thought that was cold. I can't imagine it being colder! Hunker down and stay warm!

Murphy's law indeed. Stay warm!

You and I had similar days. My van didn't want to start either on Monday. DH plugged it in (it *does* have a block heater, thankfully), but it *still* didn't want to start yesterday.

So, we boosted my van (after what felt like 3 billion tries) and got it going - all out in that lovely brisk -16 weather - -25 with the windchill.....

The ornament looks really pretty - I really like the beaded edging and hanger - does it take long to do?

Oh, dear, Dani!! I am so glad that at least the furnace is fixed now. We have a heat pump and the thing is such a pain in the neck...it literally breaks every Winter, but at least we always have the emergency heat that can kick on (thought it's $$$!) And, of course, it's not as cold down here!! I think you may deserve some nice hot chocolate!

The snowflake is lovely; is it edged with beaded whipped backstitch?

The snowflake is lovely

That is way too cold to have heating trouble, good news the guy came out quickly and got you sorted. I hope you have thawed out now!

What a sucky day! Thankfully days like this don't happen too often :-) You'll be warm before you know it, try having a hot bath.
Love your snowflake.

What a crappy day

OOOOO you really did have a crappy day! There is nothing good going to start when you wake up to -30! Believe me, in Calgary, I know all about it. Tomorrow will be a better day!
Pretty ornie though!

What a crappy way to start your week! Thank goodness they were able to fix it and you weren't doling out for a new one.
I talked to my eldest son tonight. He said that with the wind chill it had been -48C at his place and his pipes froze.
I think we all need to move. Anything up for sale near Kathy?
