The Rideau Canal running through the heart of Downtown Ottawa, it becomes the world's longest outdoor skating rink in winter
The Chateau Laurier, somewhere I could never afford to stay!
I think no matter where we live we kinda have this mental boundary line where we consider a little further than we want to/prefer to go in our area. For me my mental boundary is Downtown Ottawa, I'll go there if I have to, rather not, and its got to be a good reason for me to go further East than Downtown. On Thursday I had a very good reason to go downtown!
National Arts Center on the banks of the Rideau Canal
I went to the NAC, National Arts Center to see the Broadway Across Canada production of Lion King. The seats were fantastic and the show was even better! Actually I would say it was utterly amazing! The costumes the sets, the make-up and the perofrmers were wonderful. The opening sequence just gave me chills! It was just amazing how the performers emulated the movement/behaviours of the animals they were portraying. I've seen a few shows in my time (Phantom several times, Les Miserables, Cats, and Tommy) and I have to say its up there amongst my favourites!
I wish more productions would come to the NAC, but from what I've heard the stage is too small for some of the sets/productions. Which is such a shame!

Hi Dani,
Seems you love 'The Lion King' just as much as I do.
I saw the German version two times in Hamburg and hope to see it again. It's really amazing how the actors make the animals 'real'.

I would say that is ONE AMAZING reason to go downtown!! I would love to see that show!! I've heard it's awesome!!
Downtown looks beautiful! Is there a reason you don't like going down there?
That's the one good thing about Orlando -- it's pretty easy to get around. Even so --- there is one area I hate going to --- it's what is known as the "attractions area" -- Disney, Universal, I-Drive. UGH! Unfortunately, Steve has to go there every day -- he works down there.
Glad you enjoyed the show.
Does that canal really freeze in winter? Brr.
I know just what you mean about going into the downtown area of a city, Dani. It's something I rarely do either, but I don't know why--they sure offer some wonderful activities. If the Lion King ever makes it here, I'll have to try to convince my husband to take me :)
ohhh wow the lion King .. I am jealous now .... and oooo would have loved to be able to have skated on the canal in my younger days :) love mouse xxxx
Glad to hear you enjoyed the show. This was one that I just didn't feel compelled to see. I try to take in one or two performances at the NAC each year. I love going there. It's just a shame that they don't have a bigger stage.
So happy your enjoyed the Lion King. My family really enjoyed it. Would love to see a winter picture with the skaters.
Teresa's Heartfelt Stitches
It's nice to go see a live performance like that every now and then. :) I would love to see the Lion King as a live performance.
What a great place to skate!
I missed The Lion King...it's on my bucket list.
I love down town Ottawa..I loved it when I lived there!
Great pictures.
There's nothing like a good musical. I love them. Saw La Cage aux Folles (The Birdcage) in London a couple of years ago. It was awesome! I hope you get more shows too!
Glad you enjoyed the show - I had tickets for myself and the boys to see it in London when they were younger. We didn't make it due to the train problems that year.
We love live theatre. The first production that I ever saw was Phantom and I loved every moment of it. At the moment its sequel Love Never Dies is playing in Melbourne, 3.5 hours away from us, I am not overly keen to see it because if it isn't comparable to Phantom I will be disappointed.
