Hannah, yes I do my own custom framing. Initially I learnt for myself (now I do framing for friends and co-workers), I was tired of paying a fortune to get the smallest piece framed! Did you know that the average framer's mark-up is 300% ?!? I have a really great supplier within a 15 minute drive, the staff there now knows me by first name, I do enjoy stopping in to pick moldings and mats. Whenever I have a question or I want to talk over how I'm going to do what I'm visualizing they're happy to help, I mean I'm no competition for them. Their main business is wholesaling but they have a busy custom framing business as well. Hannah if you're interested in seeing some of the framing I've done check out this post from earlier this year. I've framed stitching, photographs, watercolours, oil paintings, a baby's first outfit. You can get very creative with framing.
By the way I'm a huge procrastinator when it comes to framing stuff for myself.

Your castle sure is progressing! Looks great. Wish i could stick to one project! The weekend definitely passes too quickly :(
Great progress during the week end !!! You will have that piece finished in no time !!!
You're flying through The Castle and making it look an easy stitch, when it's not! It's beautiful! I wish I could see it in person. This is one I've never seen finished IRL. I bet it is even more stunning than it looks in the photo's.
I just love this dragon. Those big floppy ears make him look kind of a 'friendly dragon' don't they.
PS Is this chart one that could be stitched on aida? I'm seriously thinking of getting it, but I was unsure whether it would be too hard to do on aida fabric.
Wowser, that's an incredible amount of progress!!!
The Castle is looking wonderful Dani, I love the close up picture of the dragons head, well done with the photography.
The Castle looks awesome!
I tend to be a one at a time stitcher as well, usually because I'm stitching for a gift and I have a deadline. But I have been known to get bored with a piece and put it away for a time while I stitch on something new (this usually happens when I acquire a bunch of new stash!)
I do a lot of my own framing as well. We just took our first piece to be professionally framed because it was an 11x17 piece that was ALL stitched and I wanted a professional to do the stretching and framing. But most smaller pieces I can frame on my own, which means I can afford to stitch even more things!
Your dragon looks fantastic !!! I may need pointers on framing, I promised the Sis that I would do the lacing for the piece I designed for her. I just don't trust that one to a shop.
Thats some great progress Danni and it looks fab. You'll get it finished soon I am sure. xx
I like to do my own framing too whenever possible. It is so expensive to have it framed by a professional! I save it for my really special pieces.
It's coming along so fast. Can't wait to see the finish. I am kind of a one project person myself. Once I get going on one I just want to stick with it.
When you stick with it it does progress a lot. Your looks awesome!!!
That's amazing! It really looks wonderful. I've had the kit for it sitting around for about a year, you are inspiring me to get it out!
