Trying Something Else

I've always had my blog set up so ANYONE could post and I'm hearing a lot of complaints out there about the word verification I just turned on this weekend (due to a disgusting amount of spam for various drugs).  So I'm going to try something different I've turned off the word verification but you must have a Google ID to post.

See if that works.  I must admit I hate the word verification too... it wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't so hard to read.

Hope it works for you. I've never had spam comments on my blog and I think it's because I moderate comments. Never needed to use word verify.

Happy Monday!

I turned off word verification but have always used comment moderation, and don't have any problems - well not so far.

I am another who uses comment moderation ... mainly because several years ago I was getting a lot of posts in Chinese. Upon investigating via an online translator, I discovered the messages were very offensive. Once I complained to Blogger and started using Comment Moderation, the problem was eliminated.

Can't wait to hear if it works... I don't want to use moderation, and I don't like the stupid words.
I haven't been pounded as hard as you with spam, but some is still annoying!

Aaaaah that sounds good xxxx

I hope that works for you, I'll be interested to know as I've been getting the same amount of spam and yes to every drug known and unknown to man...I had word verification turned on but it drives me potty trying to read the words and numbers so I turned it off and put on verification..I think I'll have to sort through them with this but we'll see, perhaps we can compare notes and see which may be best.

I don't have word verification but I do have mine set to only registered users can comment. I NEVER get spam...except I am often fishing legitimate comments from the spam folder.

I figure if you are going to read blogs and 90% of the blogs out there are blogspot blogs...the least you can do is register with Google to leave comments.

Another bad thing with WV is I often blog from my iPad which likes to swap the nonsense "words" I'm typing with real words. I often don't notice fast enough and have to try two or three times to leave a comment. Sometimes I give up and just exit rather than try and try!

That way tends to work for me.

I had to turn word verification on some time ago.... that blasted spam!!

I turned off word verification, but don't allow "anonymous" postings, have to be a registered user, and I haven't had a problem with spam.

I wondered how I could avoid the spam too :( I'll have to look into blocking the anonymous posters.

Thanks for the tips!

Hope it works for you Dani! I hate those word things too. Sometimes they are so bunched up you can't read them.

Hope it works Dani. I absolutely hate word verification. And end often up leaving in frustration.
My blog is set as well not to allow anonymous comments.

Hope it all get sorted out ☺

It's crazy that verification... don't like it too!!

Hope it works, the wv is awful, they are nearly impossible to read and I find myself needing up to 4 or 5 goes sometimes

Oh ! I know what you mean, I am on Comment Moderation and sometimes its a drag especially with me, I don't read my blog everyday and so comments don't get posted until I do, yet I can't do without one to filter out those spams.

I do think they could be easier to read, and it wouldn't be so much of a pain. Love the google id choice, I have not had to deal with spam yet, as my blog is so new. UGH...

I have never had the spam go to where everyone can read it. There is a spam folder under comments that they go to. I am thinking of turning moderation off again. To hard to read.

I hope this helps with your spam problem!! I don't get many spam comments, and the few I get, go to the spam comments folder and do not show up in my comments.

Yay!!
Hope the no-anon thing works for you xxx

I don't understand why they have to make the word verification SO hard. It's like you need a PhD in physics to figure it out sometimes. WTF??? Makes me feel like I need to start watching Sesame Street again for a refresher course in LETTERS. lol

I am so glad you reconsidered. I made one comment to your post, returned and could not leave another because of the word verification…and now I hope you've changed will work.
